GeoMag with HMR2300

The GeoMag product is designed for immediate or long-term vector measurement of weak static and extremely low frequency magnetic fields in the range of +/–200 μT. The GeoMag uses the HMR magnetometer module for measurement and also enables measurement, recording and primary evaluation of magnetic declination and magnetic inclination toward the HMR magnetometer coordinate system.


GeoMag software allows:
  • graphic and alphanumeric visualization of measured and calculated data,
  • measurement of the magnetic field vector projections into the x, y and z axes,
  • magnetic field vector calculation from its projections into the axes,
  • magnetic declination calculation in compliance with magnetic field vector projections into the x and y axes (based on the horizontal HMR2300 placement presumption),
  • magnetic inclination calculation in compliance with magnetic field vector projections (based on the horizontal HMR2300 placement presumption),
  • average value calculation of the magnetic field vector projection into the x, y and z axes, magnetic field vector, magnetic declination and magnetic inclination from the values visualized on the oscillograph screen,
  • minimum value determination of the magnetic field vector projection into the x, y and z axes, magnetic field vector, magnetic declination and magnetic inclination from the values visualized on the oscillograph screen,
  • maximum value determination of the magnetic field vector projection into the x, y and z axes, magnetic field vector, magnetic declination and magnetic inclination from the values visualized on the oscillograph screen,
  • repeating time period setting from 1 second up to the 6 hours for automatic measurement,
  • automatic HMR2300 detection on the serial COM1 a COM2 ports,
  • date and time stamp record of every measurement,
  • continuous measured data saving into the chosen text file and in the format suitable for further processing for example in a spreadsheet processor in the time of the automatic measurement with the continuous recording,
  • immediate visualized data saving into the chosen text file and in the format suitable for further processing for example in the spreadsheet processor in the time of the automatic measurement in the manual measurement mode,
  • utilization of the ToolTip help (by moving mouse over the object you need more information about),
  • utilization of the html help.

GeoMag software screen description:


  1. Oscillographic visualization. It shows magnetic field vector and its projections into the x, y and z axes, magnetic declination and magnetic inclination. The visualization is only informative. The latest (newest) 180 values are shown. The last (actual) measured value is on the left side and the oldest measured value on the right side. Line colours correspond to the table of measured and calculated current values.
  2. Table of measured and calculated current values. Columns contain values of the magnetic field vector projections in the x, y and z axes, values of the magnetic field vector, magnetic declination and magnetic inclination. Rows contain the latest measured values, average values, minimum and maximum values from the data visualized in the oscillograph screen. After the data acquisition from the HMR2300 values are continuously recalculated.
  3. Text printout of the visualized data. This printout is suitable for a quick overview of the measured data or for the data copying into the clipboard and their further processing in another application. Data are visualized after that measurement is finished and the data corresponds to the data visualized on the oscillographic screen.
  4. Measurement running and stopping.
  5. Repeating time period setting from 1 second up to the 6 hours. 9 indicates the time of the next measurement.
  6. Activation of the continuous data saving into the file. It allows continuous saving of the measured data into the text file in the format suitable for further processing for example in a spreadsheet processor. After data acquisition from the HMR2300 values are automatically added at the end of the chosen file.
  7. Allows choosing a file for the continuous data saving into the file.
  8. Saves the data visualized on the oscillograph screen into the text file in the format suitable for further processing for example in a spreadsheet processor. Data are added at the end of the chosen file.
  9. Time indicator of the next measurement.
  10. Time and date of the latest visualized values. Computer system time is used.

GeoMag software system requirements :
  • Windows operating system
  • one free serial port with Canon 9-pin connector,
  • recommended minimum screen resolution 800x600,
  • 20 MB of free disk space for application installation.

GeoMag software installation:
GeoMag application is installed from the install CD delivered by the producer. Copy the whole Install folder from the GeoMag installation disk to the arbitrary disk folder. All files and folders (exe file, ocx libraries and also help folder with its content) have to be in one folder. This is the last step of the GeoMag installation process.

GeoMag power supply module description
The GeoMag power supply module is used for the HMR2300 module feeding. The switch placed on the front side of the power supply module serves for module turning-on. The red diode indicates sufficient battery voltage of the power supply module. The HMR2300 is connected to the power supply module through the shorter cable. Connect your PC with the power supply module through the shorter cable. The power supply module is connected with the PC through the COM1 or COM2 serial port. The power supply module includes 6 pieces of LR6 AA batteries. After voltage decreasing under the acceptable value the indicating red diode is switched off and the batteries need to be changed. The battery change can be performed after uncovering of the clapper part of the back side of the power supply module and battery box removing. After changing of the batteries put the battery box back to the power supply module and cover the clapper part.


HMR 2300 magnetometer module general description
The three-axes Honeywell HMR2300 magnetometer is designed for static and extremely low frequency magnetic field measurement in the range of +/– 200 μT. Analog output of the magnetoresistive Wheatstone measurement bridge is converted to the digital 16-bit number through the A/D converter. Gathered data about the magnetic field vector projections into the axes are sent to the PC through the RS-232 interface using the HMR2300 microprocessor. The HMR2300 includes a band block filter for the magnetic field frequency range of 50–60 Hz (industrial power grids).


The GeoMag product contains:
  • GeoMag software,
  • GeoMag power supply module (with six LR6 AA batteries) with cabling,
  • HMR2300 Honeywell magnetometer module.


GeoMag product installation::
  • connect the GeoMag power supply module with the HMR2300 magnetometer module through the longer connecting cable,
  • connect the shorter connecting cable from the GeoMag power supply module with the COM1 or COM2 serial port of your PC,
  • turn on the GeoMag power supply module (functionality of the batteries is indicated by the red LED diode),
  • turn on your PC and install the GeoMag software from the installation CD,
  • test the GeoMag product functionality by the GeoMag software initialization.
